That’s why we’re constantly investing in production capacity across a number of locations and salt resources.
Our Salt
Solution Mining
We handle 1,000’s of tonnes of salt produced by Solution Mining, both in the UK and Western Europe.
Although this comes with an increased energy cost, the resulting PDV and compacted product made from it are recognised as offering consistent purity and high quality.
Room and Pillar Mining
With only two Underground Room and Pillar rock salt mines in the UK, both only producing crushed brown rock salt for winter road use, we have partnerships in a number of locations where rock salt is mined, some of the resulting material is graded and sold as high quality coarse salt for culinary use, while most is processed into refined PDV which has so many uses.
In partnership with us, producers have been able to add value by further processing their salt into high quality tablets and blocks which meet the high standards expected in the UK and Northern European markets.
Lake Salt Harvesting
Around the world there are a number of natural salt flats, or salt lakes, fed from underground water sources which coincide with subterranean salt deposits, the actions of wind and sun cause natural crystalisation of salt which can then be harvested annually, in some cases producing millions of tonnes.
While not matching PDV in terms of purity, and having a range of crystal sizes, by washing, drying and grading, a range of lower cost salt products are produced at a purity suitable for a wide range of uses.
By investing with our partners in production and packing facilities, overseeing quality and integrating our logistics solutions, we enable those businesses to reach new markets in the UK and Europe.
Sea Salt Production
Our oceans are our greatest resource as we look increasingly at stewardship of our planet.
Salt harvested in a sustainable way from sea water has low cost and very low carbon footprint, and whereas contamination and impurities are concerns in it’s raw state, washing and mechanical processing produces natural salt crystals in a wide range of grain sizes suitable for every application.
Sea salt can also be used as the raw material for further processing into PDV from which very pure salt tablets and blocks can be made.
Through our partners, we’re able to support to production of sea salt and it’s further processing into PDV to produce high quality salt tablets and blocks for the markets of the UK and Europe.
